The diversity of colour and and texture and the physical properties of stiffness or bendability and of strength in proportion to weight give each species of timber a character of its own. This offers me a challenge and a source of inspiration to woodworking. For me, that first pass of the timber over the planner revealing the beautiful pattern and texture make woodworking more than just a profession.
Since wood is a product of nature, each piece is unique. Each section of wood taken from a tree, or even from the same board, will be different: it may have the same strength or colour, but not the same grain pattern. It is this diversity of character, strength, colour, workability and even scent that makes wood so appealing to cabinet makers, carpenters & Joiners.
